technical data sheet NAZDAR Pearlescent Specialty PigmentsPearlescent pigments are added to solvent-based and UV-curable screen printing ink systems to provide a metallic finish depending on pigment load, background color and viewing angle. Pearlescent powders are very transparent; therefore they can change shade significantly with the substrate color or any underlying color. These pigments can be combined with transparent colors to provide additional effects. |

Uses
While technical information and advice on the use of this product is provided in good faith, the User bears sole responsibility for selecting the appropriate product for their end-use requirements. Reference the 'Quality Statement' at the end of this document. User InformationMeshMatch the screen mesh to the particle size of the pigment. When the mesh opening is too small, larger pigment particles are blocked from passing through the screen and onto the substrate, eventually blocking the ink. See the 'Product Listing' section to match particle size to the mesh count/mesh opening. Keep in mind, the particle size range is given; most of the particles fall in the mid-range size. Reference your mesh manufacturer's guidelines as to the mesh count, thread diameter, and mesh open area. Pigment/Additive LoadAdd up to 20% pigment by weight depending on the ink system, mesh count, adhesion, cure, and desired effect. When inks are to be printed over Pearlescent colors, the overprinting ink(s) must be evaluated for intercoat adhesion before proceeding with the production run. To maximize intercoat adhesion over Pearlescent colors, we recommend that Pearlescent colors be printed as late as possible in the print sequence. Pearlescent pigments can be combined with Multi-Chromatic and Interference pigments to create numerous of effects. Higher pigment load may require higher cure levels. Test adhesion properties when determining pigment load. |
Mixing ClearPearlescent pigments are intended to be used with mixing clear, metallic mixing clear or highly transparent colors. StorageTightly closed in a dry area. General InformationInk HandlingInhalation is the primary route of exposure and irritation with Pearlescent pigments. Therefore, it is recommended that all personnel mixing and handling these products minimize the creation of dust. If pigment is inhaled, seek fresh air and consult a doctor if feeling unwell. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for further instructions and warnings. Color Card MaterialsThe following is a list of available screen printed sample literature representing pearlescent additives. Special Effects Color Card (CARDSPL): shows various special effect pigments mixed with clear. Packaging / AvailabilityContact your Nazdar distributor for product availability and offering.
