Gamut-Based Image Predictor
Weathering Becomes a Visual Proof
See the future of your image with new technology from Nazdar Consulting Services. The Graphics Industry is based on communicating with the written word and visual images. Some of those images are placed outdoors in the elements as signage, advertising, and functional graphics. These durable images will have an expected outdoor life and will change in appearance over time. The science of weathering inks and media is an established practice guided by ASTM standards.
Until now, however, weathering data has translated only to numbers on spreadsheets, with visualization left up to the experience of the user. It is only now that there is finally an accurate system that will translate this weathering data into information that can be applied directly to images before they are printed for use.
Industry excitement for the new technology brought about its introduction in the July/August edition of the SGIA Journal, in which Nazdar Director of Technical Services, Bruce Ridge, detailed how the current weathering system is non-visual and the ways in which the Gamut-Based Image Predictor provides a tangible solution to this long-standing problem.
Why Traditional Weathering Is Outdated
We live in a visual world, and the process of weathering is all about how images will look over time. So why should our weathering data be any less visual? Traditionally, weathering has been communicated through a series of numbers describing how each color in CMYK ink is affected by exposure. Without experience, however, these numbers have very little context.
Nazdar Consulting Services seeks to update this system with the Gamut-Based Image Predictor, software that translates this traditional raw data into an accurate simulation of what an image will look like after a specified time period.
